Philips hat das MIFARE® DESFire (MF3 IC D40) zur Verwendung mit Proximity Coupling Devices (PCDs) gemäß ISO/IEC 14443 Typ A entwickelt. Das Transportprotokoll entspricht Teil ISO/IEC 14443-4. Der MF3 IC D40 ist in erster Linie für sichere kontaktlose Transportanwendungen und damit verbundene Treueprogramme konzipiert.
